The A. B. Miller Dance Conservatory of Dance and Dance Programs are designed to allow a dancer to focus on a specialized dance education within a public urban school setting. A. B. Miller High School Dance provides the opportunity for each student to realize the depth of his or her experiential and expressive potential as a person and as a dance artist. This program is designed as an option for dancers who are interested in enriching their dance training without leaving the Inland Empire to attend a fine arts magnet high school. The Conservatory of Dance is the only program of its type on a high school campus in the Inland Empire. The goal of the program is to provide students with the skills to earn admission to the college or university dance programs of their choice or to enter the dance profession immediately following high school. Acceptance to the conservatory and pre-conservatory programs is based upon potential for trainable growth, physical/movement technique, rhythmic sensibility and musicality and a serious commitment to dance training and/or a career in dance.

The Conservatory program has a 100% college matriculation rate with students attending CSU Long Beach, UC Riverside, CSU San Bernardino, Loyola Marymount, SUNY at Purchase, UC Los Angeles and Riverside Community College. Former graduates are professional dancers with Inland Pacific Ballet (Claremont, CA), Shen Wei Dance Arts (New York, NY), Intersect Dance Theater (Riverside, CA) and other dancers are pursuing dance related careers in physical therapy, nutrition and education.

Background

The A. B. Miller Dance program began in 1995 as a vision for a young teacher and a seasoned principal.  The program has grown from a stand alone dance/aerobics course for approximately 50 students to a program which employs two full time credentialed teachers,  four adjunct dance specialists and several guest artists.  In 2009, A. B. Miller High School founded a dance conservatory, where advanced students spend part of the school day studying ballet, jazz, modern, composition and exploring careers in dance.

A. B. Miller Dance is the capstone in a district wide dance initiative called the Dance Collaborative.  The Dance Collaborative provides dance education opportunities for students in grades PK-8 grades.  The Dance Collaborative provides dance education for over 1200 students each year.

""I just think having dance publicly available for people like me who didn't have the funds for it just opened me up to a whole other world that I didn’t even know existed."

"
It is because of dance that I have developed as an artist.  I am a beautiful mover, choreographically creative and confident.
